Why Astrology?

Astrology literally means “the Science of the Stars”, from the Greek word astrologia: astron (star) and logia (study of). A person who practices astrology is called an astrologer. Astrology seeks the meaning and application of the influences of the planets, stars and other celestial phenomena in our lives. Astrology and astronomy have in modern times become separate studies, though for most of human history they were one.  The position of the sun, stars, moon and planets at the time of a person’s birth (not conception) has a correlationship to aspects of their personality, relationship styles, economic fortunes and similar traits.

As with any statistical science ( Biology, meteorology, psychology, archaeology) we are working with statistics and with probabilities. A weatherman tells you there is 80% chance of rain – and she is mostly right. So it is with all statistical work. That said, the stars have a strong track record  – in that  it is Astrology which allows the gardening almenacs to predict weather over a year in advance – something a meteorologist would never attempt!

 Exploring ourselves, our relationships and our place within the world, Astrology has found that the angular relationships between the heavenly bodies are significant, and can be seen as a map to human destiny. This is often expressed as “As Above, So Below”. Astrology offers us insight into all manner of situations, from the personal to the political and from the most intimate to the most mundane.

What most people know about Astrology is their “sign,” which refers to one of the 12 constellations of the zodiac. This is a form of sun-sign astrology, which is the Astrology upon which newspaper horoscopes are based. It is probably the simplest form, because nothing more than the date of someone’s birth is needed to generate a sun-sign horoscope. This form of Astrology is too simplistic. How can 1/12th of the world’s population all have identical personalities and potentials?  To produce a truer measure, the exact time and place of birth are critical.  The chart moves forward every 4 minutes, so seeking the most accurate time possible allows for a profile which actually belongs to the client and a forecast which can offer good detail about upcoming trends and opportunities. Learning Astrology is fun and useful. Online classes, in person classes  and one on one astrology classes are all available. Because I am professionally qualified, I offer examination for professional qualification through the NCGR and through the CAAE. This means that with me as your teacher, you do not have to travel to attain any one of several internationally recognised professional qualifications.

Astrology is an incredible tool of self-discovery. When life becomes complex and fraught with difficulty, Astrology offers a context for those troubles, as well as ways out of the difficulties and the understanding and comfort that perhaps things happen for a reason. It can shine light on inner contradictions and natural strengths. As a map of the psyche, the birth chart is a guide to self-understanding that never stops revealing new layers of insight.

Astrology can give a deeper understanding of your relationships — with bosses, siblings, parents, children, friends and partners. Comparing a couple’s birth charts alerts them to areas where their natures could come into conflict. Relationship analysis points out areas to challenge and support each other to fulfill your individual destinies. Astrology shows where karma is being played out, with hard but necessary lessons, and the potential for improved communication and mutual empathy.

Perhaps the best use of the chart is to help someone find their smile. We all start out with dreams and passions, things that inspire and stimulate us – then life gets in the way and we get beaten down … we forget the things that for us, are the source of our joy. The chart, correctly applied, will literally be the spark to let you rekindle your passion for life!
